Why We Need To Read

We Need To Read was built on a simple belief: everyone deserves the chance to become a stronger reader, for free, without judgment, and at their own pace. We use classic, public domain stories and texts — from simple tales to informational works with bigger vocabulary — to help you find out exactly where you stand today.

From there, we offer real tools: assessments for speed, comprehension, spelling and recall, courses built around ten levels of reading, and support for people learning English as a second language. As you improve, you can track your progress, set goals like reaching a high school reading level, a level that opens up better jobs, or a level that prepares you for college — and earn certificates that celebrate your progress.
